Winter Whinge

It's cold, I'm sitting here in my computer chair sorta bleakly staring at the screen through tired eyes while my nose continues to drip into not only the back of my throat which sorta negates my taste buds, but also from the front, like a leaky fucking tap.
I can't sleep, as a river of shit pools in the back of my throat which needs to be swallowed to allow me to keep living, oh and yeah, that lovely sickly tastebud rip everyone knows and loves happens at every hesitant swallow. Sigh, I fucking hate winter, only 2 months of it to go luckily.
I was sleeping well, then wham, shit fucking cold comes my way. I've already done the due thing of sending messages off to the other Brodie's senior kitchenhands (read, all one of them) in hope they'll work tonight, so I can hopefully try to stay awake until I just collapse asleep and through sheer survival instinct, I manage to someone clear my throat from the pool of shit whilst still staying asleep.
I've even gone as far to SMS 1st Choice about my Wednesday night shift. I feel a few shit days coming on. Thursday is my day off, from both jobs, which is a rare dime and dozen and I was planning to celebrate by hitting the town with Benji, but I doubt that in my current condition. This leads me up to 4pm Friday, where my uber weekend of work (27 hours) will start.
Yuck, I just managed to have my first sip of the only fucking thing in the house that may soothe my throat, green tea, and it's foul. I can't tell whether it's normally this rancid, or just that my tastes have seized.
I haven't blogged in awhile, nothing really worthy to be honest. I have managed to finish my third semester of uni, which brings me to halfway through my course. That's exciting, but scary also to think about, as this time next year, I should be thinking about full time, like, career style jobs. I think I managed to pass every subject, I'm still a bit paranoid about one of them though. I'm expecting my GPA to drop again from the once mighty 5.75 to 5.16, which is still 'good', but not where I'd like to be. Next semester I'm planning to put a bit more effort in, and with Benji having being accepted into TAFE, I think I'll have a bit more motivation to endure the shitty bus ride in.
In the time it's taken to write that paragraph I've managed to offer my throat some sort of sugary relief by sucking on a chico so that the chocolaty caramel goodness coats my throat. It's working, but the bag of chico's is running dangerously low, so I'm going to have to seek alternative methods of relief soon enough.
I have been filling in the time around uni with work, and alot of it. I'm doing about 40 hours a week between the two jobs, and it's nice to have that little bit extra money each week. You feel alot more free and unrestricted and I can be a little bit less anal about spending each week. Since my Megadeth CD came out last month, I have been spending about $50 a week at JB increasing my CD collection which is good, I enjoy my music so don't have any regrets about buying CD after CD.
The Thursday, or Wednesday, I don't remember, of last week saw myself, Yeatsie, Kyle and Benji endure the second Fantastic Four movie. Yes, I say endure as in, it was boring and Alba's ass did not make an appearance till the very end, and even so, it wasn't enough to make the movie 'worth it'. Stick with Into the Blue for Alba juiciness.
I've actually watched a few movies lately. Wayne's World, which was meh, I did however like parts, but as a whole not the greatest. Waiting is ok, very raw in a Clerks-esque sort of way, but again, great parts, but meh on the whole. Van Wilder 2 continues this trend, great parts, but meh overall. Maybe I'm just a terrible critic? I doubt it, because Clerks 2 and Employee of the Month were both fucking fantastic! I highly recommend both.
Sitting here my nose is starting to dry up, but throat is continuing to pool with nasties ![]()
Ergh, oh, Friday night saw the boys and random invited guests (that be the girls and Lt. Dan (now 18
)) head out to the Dockside Comedy Club for Yank's 19th. Sadly, the comedian's were nowhere near as funny as the previous times I've been and as a result, saw the group sorta split at the end of the night with only Benji, Mudos and Lt. Dan partying on in the town. The rest of us went home to do whatever the cool kids do. I slept, so obviously I'm so very current, cool and hip.
On the Saturday night I joined Yeatsie, Yank and Kyle in the city to wind down abit after realising I didn't start work until 3pm the next day, and wanting to watch the New Zealand vs South Africa rugby match. I got Dad to drive me into the city with a 4pk of Smirnoff Double Blacks as pre drinks thanks to cheapness at 1st Choice. I met the kids at the Vic, which was good fun, then we moved to Union Jacks, which was awesome, then the night ended really. Yank drove us to the Valley for some unknown reason, then bailed home cause of sickness/tiredness/boredom so we walked back to the city, in fact from The Mustang Bar to Irish Murphy's to finish watching the rugby and so I could be danced to by some old women who appreciated me being able to sing Led Zeppelin. Eventually, the 130 was caught, Blake was a saviour with Amy and Dani and managed to drive me the last leg of my journey home, and I crashed, disappointed of the night that could of been had we stayed in the city, but oh well, plenty more times.
Twenty minutes have passed since I started typing this. I hope it doesn't fuck up, it'd be a waste of time, but I guess I've got nothing better to do. I'm contemplating what to do next and right now reading Harry Potter all over again is beating out strumming guitar. I think my parents would be proud of that decision. However, because I'm a dangerous motherfucker, I think I'll play a bit of GTA:SA first, just to tire the senses out a bit more, with luck..
Until next time when I can't sleep and need to pass some time,

It's been awhile since I blogged and surprisingly it's not that I haven't done anything in the past one and a bit weeks, I've just to been too drunk/emo/lazy to blog about it. So here you go, the last one and half weeks:
- Sunday 3.12.06
- During the day I went to the coast to recon Dani from the ex. Plans went astray and I never actually saw Dani at the coast but instead, I met two chicks, Laura and Sam who gave me a lift to Surfers Paradise from Main Beach in their rather sexy looking Lancer. I had some Maccas and what not then walked back to Main Beach (about 30minutes) and drove home.
- Picked up Dani from home and went to Cam's pool party (read benji's take on it). It was fun, sorta over by the time I rocked up but nevertheless, the water was good and um, the cold pizza?
- Went home, was emo and wrote my Merry Go Rounds entry.
- Went and saw Borat, which blew. I'm not a fan of the 'put on a dickhead accent and I am funny ya?' sorta movies, had some moments though.
- Monday 4.12.06
- I don't remember. According to my bank statement, nothing. I'm guessing I just worked and bludged all day.
- Tuesday 5.12.06
- I went to Loganholme with Cam and probably made him spend a good $100 or so while I got Strapping Young Lad - Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing and Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape ($29 for the lot?).
- At night I went to the gym with Benji and we met up with Mel, Shane, Adam and Dani there. I did a personal best on the treadmill running for the full ten minutes at 12km/h. Go me. Yes I am unfit.
- Went back to mine to watch OC to find that I taped the wrong channel so we hauled ass over to Mel's to watch it using Dani's tape whilst making banana, choc chip, milo and nutmeg milkshakes.
- Proceeded to get Benji hooked on the OC (more later).
- Wednesday 6.12.06
- Don't remember, bank statement not helpful either.
- But I think this is the day where Mum bought a exercise bike so I rode on it for an hour and half whilst watching Rock Star (the movie, not the lame TV show).
- Thursday 7.12.06
- I picked Mel up and went to Loganholme on a mission to shop for Dani's birthday present. We failed, but along the way got Mel's retainers from her dentist because she got her braces off

- I bought INXS - The Years 1979-1997 for $24.99 from JB.
- I worked the night.
- I woke up at 3am and picked up Amy, Mel and Claire from South Bank after their girly night out (photos).
- Friday 8.12.06
- I went to Dani's for the day
- We watched the OC, Rock Star and Almost Famous, chatted and got slushies and then went through her Dad's CD collection.
- Worked the night, but didn't get home until 12.30 as I ran into some old mates who used to work at Brodies just as I was leaving (at like 10? was a shit night).
- Went home and had a few drinks to ease myself into the weekend.
- Saturday 9.12.06
- Went to the coast with Yeatsie, Benji and Cam and mucked around at Main Beach, got some milkshakes then headed off to Robina Town Center.
- Yeatsie spent $160 at JB, Cameron stuck with his budget ($20 I think?), Benji got nothing and I got Led Zeppelin III which is fucking awesome!
- Dropped the kids off and went to the bottle shop, got myself a six pack of Woodstock then headed home to clean the car, drink and get ready for the night.
- Yeatsie picked us up, I was a little intoxicated and we headed to Sizzler for Dani's pre birthday dinner. I ate, I was drunk, then sobered up towards the end of Sizzler for bowling. Corey Parker (from the Broncos) was apparently eating near us too.
- I sucked at bowling, I got a few strikes but nothing amazing, I think my scores were like 90 something and 113. It was fun though. Night turned a bit emo towards the end of bowling, combination of tired/feelings and sms's that I probably shouldn't of read.
- Did I mention I sobered up hard? Original plan was to head back to The Shack and keep drinking but Yeatsie, Benji and Cam and I were just too rooted to even think about it so we headed home.
- I got home drunk a bit more eventually passed out.
- Sunday 10.12.06
- Brendo's day of sulking and doing nothing but listening to Snow Patrol and other easy sorta going bands and drinking more Woodstock.
- Towards the night Cam played shits and giggles on me and told me I slept with some random from clubbing. Confused and a little worried but still pretty fucking sure I didn't due to a number of reasons I smsed her to find out the deal. Turns it she gave me a dodgy number but in return I now know Natalie, who's 19, lives in Sydney and hopefully is going to show me, Benji, Dani and Mel around when we head down in January.
- Monday 11.12.06
- Me and Mel attempted to find Dani's present yet again but failed.
- Me and Mel went to Naughty but Nice, which was fun, interesting and a bit weird when the lady (who was wearing a shirt, Vodka - Connecting People) asked that if wanted to try any of the costumes on that we just had to ask and she'd organise it. In the end it just made me and Mel mopey that we didn't have a significant other to play sex games with, so we left and I went work.
- Came home, drunk again, this time vodka on the rocks.
- Tuesday 12.12.06
- Still a bit emo, just bummed around home exercising and watching That 70's Show (hmm forgot to mention that I spent most of the other days watching this in my free time too). Played guitar a bit but nothing too crazy.
- Felt like shit from the vodka, it gets to you, trust me, so I bailed on gym and OC and watched it by myself (first time in ages!).
- Had a bit more vodka, mixed with juice this time so flavour and a less of a, 'get fucked' factor.
- Thought about patching things up with a certain someone but passed out before I could even start messaging.
- Wednesday 13.12.06
- Awesome day.
- Lots of confusion the night before, unreliable shitty phones and communication breakdowns led to Amy, Dani and Mel having to stay at home, but Nani, Kyle, Josh, Yeatsie, Cam, Benji and me continued our trip to the coast (originally Springbrook Falls to play in the rock pools, jump of waterfalls and what not).
- Met at Maccas and then headed out. Benji and Kyle exchanging hi fives at 110km/h between cars was the main highlight of the trip down.
- Went to Robina JB (the best, by far) first and spent some dollars. Benji headed across to Kmart and got all the OC Seasons, can you say hooked? Cam stuck to budget again and got some Maiden, Dream Theater and Killswitch. Yeatsie stayed down and got a few Pink Floyd cd's. I got Jeff Buckley - Grace, Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin, ACDC - High Voltage and Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance which marks the most I've spent at JB in a while

- After our shopping binge, paying nani out about being a midget and explaining to her that she was the honorary 'cool guy with long hair' for the day (a role normally assumed by the lovable Amy), we headed back up the Motorway to Main Beach.
- The beach was awesome, and after spotting a topless sunbather, we swam for an hour or so. Josh lost his thongs to the sand demons a few times and nani made the mistake of letting her top fly open giving Kyle a nice shot of nipples.
- The waves were great, caught a few of them, highlight was when we all caught the same wave and rode it into shore then the usual hi five swapping afterwards. I also managed to catch a massive dumper and steer between Yeatsie and Cam only to fly over the top of Cam and poleaxe him.
- Eventually the lifeguards ruined our fun (probably in exchange for our safety) and told us to get out of the surf cause conditions were changing. We scoffed, then headed to Cavil for some food, and then hit up Surfers Paradise beach (oh after blaring ACDC down the main strip).
- The beach was again awesome, more thongs were lost, dignity was fought for in the sumo ring and then we tackled the waves again. This time the sea claimed Nani's sunglasses and poleaxed every single of us countless times. We left the beach when the lifeguards packed up and ushered everyone out of the water and headed home.
- The day wasn't over. Nani got lost after dropping Kyle and Benji off so crashed at mine for awhile. Yeastie then brought of my new ping pong table (sickkkkkkkk) so we played that for awhile then we headed up the 'vale for some drinks.
- We picked up Kyle, Benji and Yeatsie and eventually met up with Yank.
- Canadian Club and Dry tastes like ass, infact, even ass would have more flavour. Steer clear! After a game of pool in which Yeatsie won we headed home aka, the 'vale closed.
- The night still wasn't over. We set up in my garage, much to my parents disguist, and played ping pong and drunk for awhile whilst listening to INXS and Yank's random cd. Everyone got pretty drunk/tipsy so my Dad kicked us out (fair enough he had work at 6am).
- Not wanting to end the day yet, Nani, Kyle, Benji and Me headed to The Shack to exorcise a few demons and just to continue our drinking. Yeatsie and Yank were keen to call it a night, so they went home (tsk tsk Yank driving under the influence).
- Halfway to The Shack, we get a call saying Yank has stacked his car. Being friends, we ditched our coke, bundy and glasses and started running to the 'crash scene' only to have Kyle pass out halfway and Yank come hooning up the street laughing his ass off. We saw the funny side, kinda, I did after I urinated on his car. He deserved it!
- We recon'd our supplies from the bushes and piled into Yank's car for The Shack. Yank then went home, so we went down there and had a few more drinks. Nani was surprised at our fully sick architecture skillz and then we all semi passed out until Amy and Loren said they were here. Benji recon'd them and then it was one big family in The Shack
- The night finally ended after me and Benji's game of ping pong with swords as bats and Nani copping a kick to the jaw or something similar.
- Benji and Kyle walked home. Me and Nani walked home and Loren and Amy drove home. What's wrong with that picture? THERE WERE STILL SEATS IN THE CAR! *tears*
- Me and Nani chatted then eventually passed out.
- Thursday 13.12.06
- Nani apparently left at like 8am this morning, I was still out of it so didn't notice her leave and woke up at 9am going, where the fuck did Nani go? Meh, I now could spread out, so I went back to sleep

And that's my roundup. Yeatsie got out of work today so now Kyle, Yeatsie and me are about to hit up the coast again, who can say no to the fucking awesome waves and the even better weather
I like the coast, I love the beach and I love just floating on the water. It really clears your head, makes it seem like everything is ok! Stupid reality and city life.

Metal: A Headbangers Journey

I just got back from the movies with Cam and quick shop at JB HiFi. We saw Metal: A Headbangers Journey which I thought was pretty cool. It's basically a documentary about heavy metal, it's origins, the culture and how it is perceived by society. I found it interesting and decent, but unless you've got a thing for metal it's probably not your sort of thing. It's only showing at the Dendy on George Street so also need a bit of effort and botheredness to actually go watch it. I found it interesting the origins of metal started with Black Sabbath mainly because they were the first band to play the tritone (devil's note). The interviews in the movie were short and to the point and covered lots of musicians and genres from Twisted Sister to Slayer to Iron Maiden to Dio to Cannibal Corpse to Arch Enemy.
Highlights would have to be the interview with Mayhem at Wacken Open Air Festival. Mayhem's previous vocalist blew out his brains with a shotgun and was found by his fellow band member, who before notifying the police, took a photo of the mess for the bands next album cover. The band transformed pieces of his skull into necklaces that they still wear today. Mayhem were wasted when interviewed and when asked a question about what do they think about people who say they suck or something similar, the lead singer replied, "Who? Where, FUCK THEM, we'll fuck them up, FUCK YOU". Haha, yeah crazy.
The Norwegians are a crazy bunch, with some of the death metal bands burning down churches across the country to rid Christianity from the lands. I can't remember the name now, but one of band member who was imprisoned for burning the down churches (now released) said that they will continue to burn, and he had no regrets about burning them in the first place. I guess this guys go hard out with Satanism. One other band member was interviewed and was pretty blatant with his responses.
Interviewer: "What influences your band's music"
Member: ...."Satan"
Interviewer: "What does Satan embody for your band lyrics"
Member: ...."Freedom"
Scary fuckers
I did agree with the start of the documentary and really liked how it talked about metal is different for everyone, listening to it gives people a sense of empowerment and belonging. I specifically like the conversation with one metalhead that one of the main reasons he enjoys metal is because it is always there. I can definitely relate to that. At the end of a shit day (or even a good day) nothing beats coming home to blast some metal. The thing with metal is that it's not a person, it doesn't judge, lie or discriminate, it just tells it how it is. The singers write how they feel and think, and don't really give a shit about censorship or what people think. They don't cover up sensitive issues or run from emotions, instead they just put it down on paper in an assortment of notes and raw English. If you like it and relate to it, you'll love it and take it with you forever. If you like it, you'll like it and headbang along. If you don't, you don't listen to it.
Metal has been there for me, and it's not going anywhere, which is nice to know I can count on something. My Megadeth albums aren't going to change, the lyrics will always be the same, and always trigger the same memories and emotions no matter what my age. I can relate to the lyrics and sometimes it just feels good to think, 'fuck, someone has been through what I'm going through, I'm not alone'. I can remember times when I have needed a good metal session to soothe my thoughts or just to vent too and how much it's helped. I can also remember where I've wished I had a few of my favourite metal CD's with me so I can chill out. Metal is a way of life and I'm glad that I've found and embraced it in mine.
I ended the day buying another CD (#178), which was Strapping Young Lad's self titled effort, it's pretty full on, definitely some good angry music ![]()
